“Down to a Science” review
Down to a Science by Haley Cass. Purchase on Amazon.
Haley Cass never misses. Like ever. She knows how to write a dang good story and I’ve fallen in love with every book she’s written.
You want a slow burn, clueless friends-to-lovers story between a science nerd and a firefighter? And a story about discovering yourself and sexuality? Well Down to a Science is the book for you.
The story is told from Ellie’s POV, a biomedical engineering researcher at MIT, and we meet her sitting at her favorite pub. During one of her many nights sitting at the pub working on her PhD, Ellie meets Mia, our other MC, who is a hot firefighter. Ellie is awkward and has a hard time reading people, while Mia is more relaxed, though she has her baggage. As the story unfolds, Ellie, who always thought she was straight, realizes she’s starting to fall for Mia. It’s a painful beautiful journey we take with Ellie and Mia that is worth any frustration.
My only complaint with Down to a Science was the ending. While we got our HEA (happy ever after), I do believe it was a bit rushed and wish it was a tad bit longer. This book is full of angst and miscommunication that make you want to throw the book across the room, but don’t do that because the ending is still worth it. Seriously, you should already be reading it and not this review. Go buy it now!
